I took my turn in your life,
Once not enough,
I would take all this twice.
But you chose to fall,
To fall way down.
And you chose to fall,
Made your own way out.
I thought you would know me by now.
I'll break through these clouds,
Hour by hour.
But you chose to fall,
To fall way down.
And you chose to fall,
Made your own way out.
Shout loud that you'd see this alive.
But you chose to fall,
To fall way down.
And you chose to fall,
Made your own way out.
And you chose to fall,
To fall way down.
And you chose to fall,
Rather than to drown.

Southern Love
01:58
|
|||
Come on down, sullen love, southern love,
Walk on into the light.
Oh long day, seeing you, Virginia,
You were the light on my face,
Your American grace was
A strange sort of sunlight
That never felt unright;
Alone, my heart, said hello, my heart.
I was made in the north, in the north,
Grew me out of the cold.
Take me down to the South, to the sound of
The songs that you sung when
You felt that much younger,
They're pulling me under,
The sound of the thunder,
Alone, my heart, said hello, my heart.

So you’d count it in the leaves,
All the things that you believed
They were the first ones to go.
And you’d count it in the woods
Though they’re gone not gone for good
You’ll be the first one to know.
You didn’t plan this,
You didn’t ask for this at all.
Your mother’s secrets
Found in spaces in the walls,
And under floors.
Then you say you’re getting scared,
So I’ll sit and stroke you hair,
Till the world seems less small.
Trees are flying above our head,
Teach us well how to be dead
Let’s be buried in the fall.
You didn’t plan this,
You didn’t ask for this at all.
Your mother’s secrets
Found in spaces in the walls,
And under floors.
All these Georgia roads are grey,
Southern hurts don’t go away
And there’s so much empty sky
So you’ll count it in the leaves
Things that said they’d never leave
Always go, don’t ask me why.
You didn’t plan this,
You didn’t ask for this at all.
Your mother’s secrets
Found in spaces in the wall
Southern roads lead to Virginia,
Find another way to begin your life.

Waste Your Time On Me
03:02
|
|||
Waste your time on me.
Waste your time on me and then:
Waste your love on me -
Waste your love on me again.
We were running out of time
When I said that we'd be fine.
We were running out of space
But I said we'd be alright.
It's a wide old world.
Waste your love me.
Waste your love and me and then:
Waste some more on me -
Waste it all on me again.
We were running out of time
When I said that we'd be fine.
We were running out of space
But I said we'd be alright.
It's a wide old world.
And this,
Well it had a strange old start.
And now,
Well is now the hardest part?
We were running out of time
When I said that we'd be fine.
We were running out of space
But I said we'd be alright.
It's a wide old world.

Clear
03:14
|

So we’re clear,
So we’re doing alright.
So we’re doing fine
In a beautiful sky, and we’ll
Show all of the world.
So we’re here,
So we’re out on our own
In the field where we met
Where not yet all the birds have flown,
And we would
Show all of the world
That a love unfurled,
Oh it’s quite something else.
Take it all back off the shelf and
Hold it up to the light.
So there you were
With a look in your eye,
Like you’d seen some thing in me
That would turn up all the lights
And you’d show all of the world.
And there’s a house,
With some wild meadow grass, and those
Thick old windows
With that warped sort of glass and they
Show all of the world
And a love unfurled —
Oh it’s quite something else,
Take it all back off the shelf
And hold it up to the light.
But slow way down.
Slow way down till you know me
And wait for me;
Wait for me to see what you see in me.
So you’re afraid, well honey,
I am too.
There’s a lot of things to run from
And a love to follow through,
But we’ll show all of the world
That a love unfurled,
Oh it’s quite something else.
Take it all back off the shelf and
Hold it up to the light.

Sea Change
03:36
|
|||
Early one morning I was pulled outside,
By the smell of the new on the breeze.
No more waiting, I’ve seen all there is,
All but what I glimpsed cross the sea.
I saw a place we called home.
I saw a garden and a door.
I saw a love, and a window lit up.
And I’ve never felt quite so sure.
But the breakers hit hard on the shore
It’s a cold way to sink, float, to swim.
What a cruel thing to ask of a man,
To fall, eyes forward, straight in.
I saw a broken parade,
Of all the things we didn’t do.
Half a world shook in all of a heart
And the best half was you.
But there’s some sort of faith in the tides.
The sea change, the ebb and the flow.
If love is wide eyes with a hand on the oar,
Then the best way to see is to go.
I saw a place we called home.
I saw a child with your hair.
I saw a love, and a window lit up.
And the tide takes us there.
Only time takes us there.
All the time you were here.
